Public concern for bears promotes socially responsible investment in China?(SynTao)

February 27, 2012 – To mark the official launch of the China Social Investment Forum (China SIF), please join tomorrow’s live webcast with Ms. Tessa Tennant, Founding Chair of The Association for Sustainable & Responsible Investment in Asia, and Mr. Neil McIndoe , Environmental Finance Director of Trucost. The launch event is co-sponsored by the sustainability consultancy ‘SynTao‘ and the CSR (corporate social responsibility) Research Center of the newspaper ‘ Securities Times‘ (a publication of the China Securities Regulatory Commission on Chinese listed companies).

Special topic: Guizhentang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.

The honorable guests Ms. Tessa Tennant and Mr. Neil McIndoe will be interviewed about their widely acknowledged expertise in socially responsible investment (SRI) and they will share their opinion on China’s latest financial sustainability issue: Guizhentang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. (a Chinese medicine company that sells tonics made with bear bile).

The company is seeking an initial public offering (IPO) on the Growth Enterprise Market of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange which sparked a public outcry in China after animal rights groups accused the producer of cruelty against bears. Last week, dozens of well-known entertainers, writers and other celebrities signed a petition to the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) urging it to withhold approval for listing.
