Low-Priced U.S. Radiation Meters Coming To Japan(Nikkei)

TOKYO (Nikkei)–RAE Systems Inc. said Tuesday that it will sell handheld radiation detectors in Japan that can store past readings and cost about one-fifth as much as typical models.

The California-based company will distribute the American-designed, Chinese-made miniDose detectors, priced at 22,000 yen each, through its newly established Japanese headquarters.

It aims to sell several million of the devices, mainly in the Tohoku region, responding to rising concerns about fallout from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster.
